About Beach Roses

The beach rose, or Rosa Rugosa is a species of rose native to eastern Asia, in northeastern China, Japan, Korea and southeastern Siberia, where it grows on the coast, often on sand dunes. It is also common in Europe and North America, growing along beaches and also in cities and towns.

It has many common names in English, including beach tomato, sea tomato and saltspray rose. In Japanese, it is called hamanasu (ハマナス, hamanasu?), meaning "shore pear". In Korean, the species is called haedanghwa (해당화, 海棠花),meaning "flowers near seashore". [Source: Wikipedia]
