Good question weibun76. One thing to make sure is that on the package it says that the food meets the standards set by the AAFCO for feline nutrition. (iams does, pretty sure whiskas does too.) Beyond that, if your cat likes it, I say yay!
For ex. at work we have many cat owners. None of us feed our cats exactly the same thing, but all the cats are happy and healthy...and spoiled rotten! :) Science Diet and iams are popular choices.
My "chat noir" loves ALL kibble, but especially Royal Canin ($$). Not so keen on wet stuff. I usually give her a mix of iams and Royal Canin indoor cat formulas (lotsa fibre for my obsessive licker, hairball spewing cutie pie!)
Bonne chance!

Alternate betwwen iams chicken, and hills science diet dental care. Whiskas or similar pouches for treats.... She seems happy enough - I think she likes eating in general!

Izzy wouldn't eat the Iams food - mind you in her old age she has become ridiculously fussy. But she loves Perfect Fit Active and really perked up on it after a long period of illness.

filippo loves spinach, better if cooked with a little bit of parmigiano cheese. Does anybody else has vegetarian black cat?

Our black one loves good cheese, especially old cheese and bread.
He eats Friskies for the indoor cat and wet food like Sheba or Gourmet.

Lenny was eating peas the other night, and has a great love of curry - the hotter the better. Other than that, he gets whetever brand is in the cupboard, plus some dried food in between.
He'd prefer a curry though.

I feed my cats Wellness brand cat food. It's a natural food with no preservatives or artificial junk.
Cats aren't like dogs or us, they don't need veggies. Cats are built for a mainly protein diet.
Wellness is very high protein content, with no meat byproducts or gross stuff. My cats love it, and I noticed they are more active and playful on it. I feed them the canned food, and they don't get so dehydrated and drink water all day. Their coats have gotten fuller and shinier. And, they actually eat less since the food is more nutritious.
Good luck on your cat food search!

I give mine Wellness too. They have a great variety of flavors including chicken with lobster so we can spoil our kitties! My vet told me "Fancy Feast" is like candy so - no good.

If you are concerned about the content of the food you feed your pets, a good thing to look out for is the term "animal fat' or "animal protein" on the bag/can. Buy a food that specifies the source (i.e. beef fat, chicken protein, lamb, etc.) or you are getting whatever the rendering plant can supply, be it roadkill or of veterinary origin.

I am just graduating my kitty from Iams kitten to Iams indoor 1year+ even though she is only 10 months old. I just learned that if you leave them on kitten food too long they will keep getting chunkier because it is like baby food and they will keep stinking so I am looking forward to her shedding the baby fat and smelling better :)

well, I'm not a dietist, but I think you don't have to worry about your curry-loving cat (and I don't worry about my spinach-eating cat). we too are not built for chocholate, but what a depressing life it would be without it! so, "buon appetito" to your cat!!

He like boiled courgettes or cabbage too... and sometimes uncooked meat!!

California Natural is good for those with allergies. Mine is on the Sweat Potato and Herring formula. Corn and any animal by-product is not so good for any animal.

My cats eat Royal Canine 34 and have done so throughout most of their lives. They are aged 8 months - 4 years and this food is for kittens aged 4-12 months but somehow they have managed to stay lean and mean. I've been meaning to graduate them to "adult cat food" but for the past three years but somehow there are always kittens around and I can't be bothered to feed different ages seperatly.
They also lick pieces of apple and my youngest one loves melons. And they get fish and meat when I cook it for myself. Oh, and they love yoghurt!

Turns out mine like Fromm (a local healthy brand) too!
I think because it has the lovely chunks of meat smothered in gravy.

As Boyd has gotten older his dandruff had gotten so out of control that his fur began matting up. He was eating Science Diet. We went on a search for better food and tried many of the holistic brands. He didn't like Wellnes or California Natural and Solid Gold just made the problem worse. We tried EVO and that was too rich and gave him terrible stool.
Finally we tried Innova. It is more expensive, but the dandruff has disappeared and I have never seen him look better. He feels better and loves the food too.
He also likes Cheezits. ;-)

I know a little about diet, but i'm by no means a kitty nutritionist...mine gets blue buffalo indoor or weight control formula. The only thing they should really tell people is to stay away from the meow mix type foods because they have been known to cause more blockage than when cats are fed a higher quality food. hope that helps someone :)

Iams, Eukenuba CRAP! Did anyone not read about all the pet food recalls? Those were the main two that killed all those animals. I will never buy Iams NEVER!!! Go to www.itchmo.com and read about it.
Wellness is good, especially Wellness Core, Innova is very good, it's closest to the natural carnivore in them. It's a bit much for some with sensitive stomachs. California Natural is also good. I can't believe no-one even mentions the recalls. There were over 200 pet foods recalled and some were REALLY big names sending animals into cronic renal failure. Anything that you can buy at the grocery store, with the exception of fancy feast and a couple others are just not good enough!

I feed Lacy, my 24 year old Daejan Siamese, anything she wants. I did pay attention to the food recalls, so did she. She has been diagnosed CRF, but with a medical daddy and good cat specialist vets, her CRF has been reversed. No more of those injections she hates so much!

My Vet recently asked what I was feeding because the entire veterinary staff commented that his coat was the softest they've ever felt.. They said it feels like a cross between cotton and silk :)

I feed my cats Wellness wet food only. If you want some good advice and get some knowledge on pet food and the industry go to
itchmo.com/ and go into the forums there. Also another good site is catinfo.org
these sites explain alot and have been very helpful to me since all the recalls.

My all-black cat insists on Royal Canin indoor. He also tastes a lot of other things--including curry, cream cheese, eggs...whatever we're eating. My dog is raw fed, so Rowf gets offered raw and lightly chicken often. He eats it when he feels like it. He loves canned food, the cheaper and junkier the better. It's an occasional treat. He's 4 and in great health.
Saratoga is not all black; does her opinion count? She won't eat canned food and isn't nearly as picky about brand of kibble. The biggest difference, diet-wise, is that she has no interest in non-cat food at all. She's 5 and a bit lethargic; hard to tell if it's personality, diet, or lifestyle (Rowf picks on her when she's active).

I just want everyone to know about how horrible IAMS is.
Check out this webpage
Iams Cruelty
I stopped using IAMS the minute I found about about the Cruelty and animal testing they were doing.
Nutro is a really good cat food to use. I have a friend that worked at a pet store for years and will only give his cats Nutro. It is a bit pricey, but not much more than IAMS.
