And the winner is...

Well done to our winners, runners-up and commendations, and to everyone involved this year. A fantastically high calibre of entry made it particularly difficult for our judges. You creative lot, you.

About 2011 BBC Staff Photography Competition *CLOSED*

Our seventh annual staff photography competition. (Can you believe it? Seriously?) Run by staff for staff, we're looking forward to another fab year!

The competition is open to everyone in the BBC and our BBC partners.

This year's winners, runners-up and commendations.

And if you're looking for previous year's winners, head over here: www.bbc.co.uk/atw/picturegallery/

Joining in:
Please remember when requesting membership to this group to let us know your full name as it appears in the BBC e-mail list (the 'GAL' or Global Address List as Outlook calls it) so we can make sure we only let BBC staff and our partners into the competition, otherwise we might get more entries but it'll kind of defeat the point!

If it seems to take a little while to get back to you, it's because only one of the admins gets the requests and they might be away or they might not be able to check the GAL at that time! Especially at weekends... just hold on tight, because we will get to you :-)

Dates and deadlines:
This is a staff-run competition, for all of us to enjoy, whichever part of the BBC we work in, wherever we're based, whatever we do! Here are some dates for your diaries...

* The competition opens in June 2011. But we don't have the categories set at first. So, get suggesting, then voting and we will finalise the category suggestions early August.
* The closing date for photos to be submitted to the competition is 23:59 GMT on Thursday 8 September 2011 -- that's 00:59 BST Friday 9 September.
* Judging will take place in late September/October 2011 (subject to availability of the judges, who are kindly giving their time...)
* This year we hope we'll be in a position to announce the winners towards the end of October or November 2011. Those kind people in Ariel and some of our friends from around the internal and external web community usually come up trumps with helping us out on this!

[Apologies - had previously written closing date as 23:59 GMT on Thursday 8 September 2011 (which was correct) and 00:59 BST Friday 10 September (which wasn't!). Confirming it as 23:59 GMT on Thursday 8 September 2011 which is 00:59 BST Friday 9 September!]

Categories:
Once again there will be five categories, and because it's your competition we asked you to decide what three of them should be.

The final five are:
* Your best photo of the year (taken since 1 January 2011) Tag it: best2011
* Our Green World: Making a difference Tag entries with: green2011 - NOTE CHANGE OF CATEGORY TITLE AND TAG FOR THIS CATEGORY!
* My Day Tag entries with: myday2011
* Close-Up Tag entries with: closeup2011
* Whatever The Weather Tag entries with: weather2011

Quick Rules:
Here are some very short rules:

* No one may enter more than 10 photos into the competition.
* No one may enter more than 3 photos in any category. (And only ONE in the category "Your best photo of the year".)
* The same photograph may not be entered into more than one category.
* Multiple shots of the same subject will not be accepted.
* We discussed manipulation in the Flickr pool, here.
* Entries into the category "Your best photo of the year" must have been taken since 1 January 2011.
* The judges decisions are final.
* And you HAVE to tag your photos to enter them into a specific category - if you fail to do this the judges will not see them! (Tag details will be made clear as we cement in the categories.)
