2005 MLB Predictions

view profile

Bobby Alcott  Pro User  says:

Since I know that predicting the Tigers has to be the most daunting and (possibly) stupid things one can do, I'll go first:

AL West: Anaheim
AL Central: Detroit (yes, I know) (90-72)
AL East: Baltimore
Wildcard: Boston

NL West: SF
NL Central: Chicago
NL East: Washington (why not?)
Wildcard: St. Louis

AL Champs: Anaheim
NL Champs: SF

World Champs: San Francisco Giants

(it's no fun unless you go out on a limb, is it?)

NL WEST:

AL WILDCARD:
Texas Rangers
NL WILDCARD:
Chicago Cubs

AL Champs: Minnesota
NL Champs: Atlanta

World Champs: Minnesota

As much as I hate to put Minnesota over Atlanta, they just have a better pitching staff and offensive bats than Atlanta.

AL EAST:
Yankees - Sorry beantown, you're going to see the unit at least 5 times this year.

AL CENTRAL:
Minnesota Twins - Quality club, still can't tackle the Yankees in the postseason.

AL WEST:
Anaheim Angels - Oakland lost their established rocks (Mulder/Hudson) unproven young starters probably won't cut it.

NL EAST:
New York Mets - Solid starting 5 and 3 guys in the lineup who can swipe 30/40 bases, they need the top of the order to be healthy. Braves will breathe down their necks.

NL CENTRAL:
St. Louis Cardinals
Rotation got stronger, will miss Renteria a bit. Astro's killer B's getting up there in age.

NL WEST:
San Diego Padres
I think they're going to sneak up on SF and LA.

AL WILDCARD:
Boston Red Sox

NL WILDCARD::
Atlanta Braves

AL Champs:
New York Yankees
(if Unit stays healthy)

NL Champs:
Atlanta

World Champs:
New York Yankees

AL MVP:
Alex Rodriguez

AL CY YOUNG:
Johan Santana

AL Rookie of the Year:
Dallas McPherson, 3B Angels

NL MVP:
Albert Pujols

NL CY YOUNG:
Jason Schmidt

NL Rookie of the Year:
Andy Marte, 3B Braves

AL EAST: Red Sox
AL CENTRAL: White Sox (I'm a dreamer.)
AL WEST: LA Angels of Earth
AL Wild Card: Texas

NL EAST: Braves
NL CENTRAL: Cards
NL WEST: Dodgers
NL Wild Card: Astros

AL Champs: Angels
NL Champs: Cards

World Champs: Angels

And I'm hoping the Washington Nomads lose every game. Don't think I'm against the people of Washington. It's the MLB owners I think are jerks.

AL East: Red Sox
AL Central: Twins
AL West: A's
AL Wild Card: Orioles after a 1 game playoff against the Yankees, Jeter commits the season ending error and retires from baseball in disgrace.

NL East: Braves
NL Central: Cardinals
NL West: Giants
NL Wildcard: Padres

AL Champs: A's
NL Champs: Giants

World Champs: Giants

And, is it just me or is the new Angels' team name incredibly stupid and off-putting?

Urban Tiki, I like your thinking and think the O's will be a powerhouse but against the monster payrolls in Wankeetown and Beantown, I don't think they'll be able to take the division. But I'd love to see them send the Yankees home in the first round!

Baltimore dont gots no pitchin! :P

While I am a Yankee fan and have been since 75, (I had to watch them suck on the exhaust pipe of life in the 80s till the mid-90s) I do have to roll my eyes when they keep piling up the payroll.

I think Arte Moreno's team has lost it's mind - If he wanted "Market share of LA" he should have just gone for the gusto and named them back to the California Angels...

Can't wait for the cold to stop and the season to begin, so we see how it plays out.

Yeah, they can mash, thats for sure. I feel bad for poor toronto, they lost Delgado and the only real "muscle" they have is Wells and Coskie..They sure can pick it though.

I've been wrong before. You know, like just a couple of minutes ago. I SWORE the sign said "Men's"...

Thoughts of UrbanTiki, MLB Commish:
- I loved Boston's run.
- I'd love to see the Cubs win.
- I want the Yankees to have to move to Montreal.
- I'd like the Brewers to move to Indianapolis.
- I want to see my Tigers finish in the money.
- I want Juan Gonzalez to give back every penny he ever made playing baseball.
- Canseco, too.
- I want Minnesota to keep rubbing it in.
- I want to see Sammy Sosa be happy.
- I want the people of St. Louis to stop acting like they're some kind of Titletown.
- I want the Devil Rays to get some real uniforms.
- I want Boston to put the kabosh on Cubs fans whenever humanly possible.
- And on the White Sox fans, too.
- I want people to understand what a GREAT baseball town Detroit is.
- I want - nay, need - the Giants to win it all, regardless of their left fielder.
- I want the freakin' games to start counting.

Urban Tiki, I think you'll see lots of Sammy's smile this year. He's playing with Miggy now, and there's nobody that can lift someone up like him!

And I am with you on the Giants deserving to win it all. Though I also believe Mr. Bonds is as deserving as anyone. Regardless of the steroid allegations, what he's done is simply beyond belief.

If Bonds' numbers are going to get asterisked then McGwire's numbers should definitely be asterisked. But I don't believe either of them should be sanctioned.

For the first time in my life I don't hate any of the final four.

I still want the Cards out of the NL, but after such a year how could I have picked the Angels over the White Sox. Ah well, you have to live with who you picked.

(But if the Sox take the Angels and the Cards I will not complain a bit.)

White Sox won it in style and nobody (even White Sox fans like me) could predict it. I don't care if they don't win for another 86 years because you can put 2005 on the board!!! Yes! :-D

I wish I'd gotten in on this :) I told my husband it was the White Sox year during Spring Training. (And I'm a Tiger fan.) The division stuff... I couldn't have picked that even a month before season's end ;) I was so determined that the Dodgers would pull off the NL Division, LOL!
