About Barclay Mountain/Laquin Pennsylvania
This is a group focused on the history of the abandoned towns of Barclay and Laquin in Bradford County, PA. Anybody with an interest in or knowledge of the once thriving coal mining and lumbering communities is encouraged to join and contribute photos, fascinating stories of old or new and submit questions or topics for discussion.
There have been several books and articles published about life on the "mountain towns" begining in the mid 1800's and gradually dying out for all of it's former glory by the early 1930's
All that remain now are several hunting cabins, a few private homes, stone foundations overgrown with decades of trees and brush, a cemetery that tells a ghostly story of a simple but difficult life filled with the joy and hardships of life on the mountain, beautiful nature, streams and ponds and abundant wildlife including whitetail deer, black bear, beaver, and the popular eastern rattlesnake.
