Well well well… It is a great sight when you open BSB pool pages and see all orange ones. At the same time, it was a tough one to judge with 89 entries.
ORANGE – The word itself brings a fresh and intense feeling in the mind. Be it the refreshing colour and its glowing shades or taste and fragrance of the fruit orange.
In photography, orange can be derived from various sources:
- Fire
- The Sun – Its light, reflections etc.
- Flora and fauna
- The Fruit Orange
- Clothes
- Other man made orange colours.
Etc.
My judging depends on following usual criteria - not necessarily in the given order:
- Adherence to the theme
- UNIQUENESS of the picture (While competing against large number of entries, this is very important)
- Exposure
- Sharpness (Unless intentional softness)
- Thought, story, idea properly expressed
Many good entries were almost yellowish rather than adhering to the theme. Therefore, keeping in mind availability of enough other competitors, they were excluded from consideration.
Before listing the special mentions and winners, I would like to refer to few entries that came very close to be included in the list but were not.

This is truly a great photograph. Though there are many oranges in that, I believe its distantly related for the theme Orange. In my view it is about great mood, skyscape, details, composition. For me, when the theme is Orange, anything related to the colour has to stand out in the image. In any case, it’s a fantastic capture by rAm.
ORANGE TREAT by Anand Prabhu

This is a very good picture in flora and fauna segment depicting orange. However, for me, excessive lack of DOF restrained it to be included in the list.
SPECIAL MENTIONS:
In spite of my hard attempts, I could not reduce the number of special mentions than six. First three pictures are related to the Sun and its light.

A very good composition with lined boats against the rising sun. Beautiful orange shades and reflection.
Back to basics by harimenon

Another shot of boat, sun and water but evidently different. Too good a composition. I liked shades of orange, reflection of the boat and sharpness in the picture.
Time to go home by Ashit Parikh

This is a classic picture of sunset, camel-guy and camel. Very good composition and silhouette. It finds its place in the list of special mentions and not winners on account of less orangish shades, keeping in mind the theme.

Lovely glowing orange guitar standing out in the picture. Light, subject and sharpness are excellent.

Lovely capture of one of the nature’s beautiful creatures. Its orange and perfectly composed. However, I could see sharpness only on the head of the butterfly.

A very good picture about theme orange. The colour stands out nicely. There is excellent light, sharpness and expression.
WINNERS:
3rd place:
Its shared by two macro segment pictures. Almost similar to each other, from different angles. I could not discard either of them and hence, are sharing the 3rd position.

Orange Explosion by ~Panache

Beautiful, soothing pictures of orange flowers. Out of many orange flowers I chose these two for the composition, effect and quality.
2nd place:
An outside perspective! by R@j

What a capture… Its excellent. Nice formation of clouds, orange light and the aircraft… Perfect composition. There was much debate in my mind about this and the first one for awarding first place. Both are in the list of winners on account of UNIQUEness in them. You cannot click such pictures everyday. They are made out of special moments. Over and above that, they are also about Orange.. The reason for this one to be second is, it could have been clicked without orange light but the first one definitely not.
1st Place:
walk on F I R E by Paren

As I have already said above, this one is very unique. Difficult to capture. Composition is so right that showing of only running legs is enough and of course the fire is very orange… Excellent one Paren!
Many Congratulations to everyone for making it one of the most participated contest on BSB.
Happy clicking..
