Hi Everyone,
I'm new to this group. My apologies - at this time I have just one shot for this theme - but since it's a very interesting one - will work on it soon - staying out of Kolkata is a disadvantage.

People... this is a competition. Please, Please number your photographs, or else we won't be able to vote on them.
Mandar, please be a little more specific as to what a "Bengali outfit" is. Is is ONLY sari? Moreover, who is a nari? What is the minimum age limit of the models?

I think if it was One Picture Per Person, it would have been easier to vote!
Anyway @ Joy Forever, BANGALAR NARI meaning as Mandar already said it must relate to our theme. It is not limited to ONLY sari? But it should somehow represent Bengali Culture or make us think "yes thats a Bengali Nari"
So no whole family pics (Samir Das, # 13 - Proud bengali mother with her 7 kids and husband is not exactly matching our theme) i.e. we r giving our main attention to Bengali Nari.
And also those portraits which doesn't in anyway relate to Bengal or Portray Bengali Culture even if that woman is of Bengali origin wont be allowed!

@ Mandar Sengupta : I don't want to post photos of my better ½ & thereby scare a bunch of her students, who might be scattered around in Flickr.
Trouble is, the longer this thread gets, the harder it gets making up my mind for voting.

Anirban, Mandar and other admins,
amar ekta suggestion achhe. make it 31 March for the posting (still 16 days left), and the voting from 1-15 April. The next competition can start around 20 April. How about that?
Ekta byapar kheyal holo... last competition e temon utsaho chokhe poreni, kintu public abar noRe choRe boshechhe. Thanks to the theme selection, and participation. So, it would be a nice idea to keep things moving... which might keep the enthusiasm alive.

i dont know whether this photo will be allowed or not. as this is a photo of a "girl" rather than a "woman".. adm can delete it if he think so.
Sorry Arnab, This picture wont take part in the competition as #"Nari" excludes children.

(+) A standard portrait with some character... the eyes and the look does it. The long focal length and the good DOF and sharpness are the assets of this image.
(-) I found it too much centered in the frame and it could have looked better in the original (uncropped) framing.
2nd # 3.
(+) There is some appeal in this photo... probably the smile and the color tones does it. This is a standard portfolio image, (-) but i'm not a good admirer of special effects.
3rd # 29
I like the old using the new gadgets here.
#46 is an image worth mentioning... good one too

#22 has a lovely DOF, bright colours, and Bangaliyana written all over it. To top that, we get two interpretations of "Nari", as in Goddess and human forms.
#8: Nice composition and timing, and sindur daan is a very important part of bengali weddings.
#29: Very natural expression due to candid nature of the photo. Good use of B&W. This is what a modern Banglar Nari is.

# 26 : Rich history & heritage of Bengal
# 36 : In the lap of a loving Bengali mother, in the lap of loving Mother Bengal. The green paddyfield is the lap of Mother Bengal.
# 21 : Stunning photography. I would like to imagine it as a woman with Sandhyapradeep
If Mandar did not refuse to accept children (at what age does a child become a woman – according to Bankim Chandra / Rabindra Nath / Sarat Chandra), I would have voted 1st preference for his 3 girlfriends, even if not posted in this thread. I am sorry, I did not read the rules very carefully. I must apologize to those who posted here at my invitation, but were disqualified for underage. I would choose # 33 : Bright future of Bengal, but sigh!!! It is disqualified.

Following is my vote :-
1st : #22 - The colors of "Shindur Khela" has come out very well. How better to depict "Bengali Nari" and co-relate that to Durga Puja then this. Fantastic job.
2nd : #3 - Very well composed, focus on the face and motion blur around. Has come out very well.
3rd : #17 - Depiction of a very important bengali tradition "Bhai Phota" - which is also am important festival for the "Bengali Nari" & interestingly that's the only shot of it's type in the contest. Well done as such.
@ Admins/Mods : - Isn't it a good idea to actually have a brainstorming session (can be done on a diff. thread - which will be for a smaller time frame) to freeze on the game/contest rules first - and then start it actually. That way no-one will have confusion on what types of images to post, and we'll see no dis-qualifications either and will save members from embarrassing situations. Or the other way is to decide on clear-cut rules and post them at the beginning itself - this will be done by whoever opens the contest. Purpose is to - basically save a lot of effort from going into the waste basket.
