08 Mar 11 - In order to improve the pool, we are now limiting submissions to 3 photos per week. I think this will make the group better. Please remember to only submit your best work. Thanks!

Auto-Anthropology - View this group's most interesting photos on Flickriver

Auto-Anthropology has been largely inspired by the work of Dave Glass (Dizzy Atmosphere) and his Automobile as landscape gallery. While I hope this group will embody a wide range of styles and perspectives, Dave Glass's work sets the tone for the quality we would like to attract.

This group is about the automobile in its social and historical context, it's not just about pictures of cars. We are looking for well crafted photographs and interesting compositions that capture some of the impact of the car on the human condition. Images in this group hope to capture the complicated relationship we have with the automobile and the resulting world we've created to accommodate it.

Basically this group is about creative captures of the automobile and the environment in which it lives.

Some basic rules:

1. Only three submissions per week and please only your best work. Any work that just gets dumped here and isn't of the quality of the rest of the group will be removed.

2. No HDR photography unless it doesn't look like HDR photography. :) Thanks. No super saturated images or anything with selective colorization. No excessive post-processing. If you've used a lot of photoshop to create your image, it's not likely the right photo for this group.

3. Images should not be of cars in car shows, meets, museums, races, etc., but in their natural everyday environments such as on the street, parking lots, driveways, etc.

4. An image doesn't necessarily have to include an actual automobile as long as it evokes the automobile in some way, like a drive in theater, gas station, motel, etc.

5. Please don't submit too many shots of car parts, or close-ups of emblems, fins, etc. Some of these shots might fit in the group, but most likely won't. It's generally better if there is some sense of context, whether it's a picture that includes a car, garage, or whatever.

6. Please reserve this gallery for your best work. These should be images that you put some thought into both in terms of composition, processing etc. Always quality before quantity.

7. Please don't resubmit the same photo again and again. This is a heavily moderated group and if your photo doesn't appear in the pool the first time it will definitely not appear by the second, third, etc. submission. Member who keep resubmitting the same photo risk removal from the group.

8. No photos with watermarks or signatures will be accepted unless the signature is so insignificant that it doesn’t distract attention from the actual photo.

9. A "natural" look to a scene is important, as mentioned in rule #3, therefore most artificial lighting (gels) are not accepted. The use of a flash, headlights of a car, a basic flashlight, etc., might be acceptable, but it's important that a scene not be too contrived.

10. Composition counts!! This is the most important thing to think about when submitting to Auto-Anthropology.

Thanks for sharing and respecting these rules.
