March blocks - Roses

view profile

Whippet Good says:

I have a ‘vision’ of a quilt made of roses – big and small, pink and green – I am happy for you to make them any size – just use up the fabric I have sent – I would like the flowers to be either all pink and all green, or with a little mixture of both.

Quilting Journey Round Robin Bee Starter block by Little Miss Shabby

from Little Miss Shabby .

Please look at the gallery I made for some lovely examples of what you may make : Australasian Bee Roses Block

I would love the block to look as scrappy as possibly – small strips rather than large strips.

An example of crazy piecing – start with a centre piece cut irregularly – it is not important which fabric or how big – add one piece to an edge at a time – trimming the added piece so that the block grows bigger with straight edges.

I would love you to make 1 to 2 blocks if possible – please just trim them up to a square at the end of your sewing. Can you please use light coloured or matching thread and either iron the seams open or to a dark sided fabric.

I am away from home for the whole of April and would not want to miss your return package – could you please hold on to the blocks and post out in either early March or in May.

Thanks so much!

Oh, so glad that you're on the ball! I totally forgot to send you the reminder email in mid Feb! I just have to go pick up the boy from school, then I'll email you the revised address list. xJo

Amy - they can be any size - happy with big or small! I am feeling very 'free for all' about how the quilt is going to look.

Fabric safe and sound here too. I was popping out every half hour today because it was pouring down and I didn't want to risk it getting damp! x

Bronwyn - I've made the blocks and will post them back to you tomorrow. Not quite aure they're exactly like they should be - especially block no 1!! I wasn't quite sure how they would turn out and the first one's not great but then I had run out of fabric to make the outer edges look better -sorry! The green one I think is more what you were looking for - hopefully?!

I have finally sat down at the machine to make these roses and was wondering if you're opposed to me adding in some extra fabric to get my blocks a bit bigger (and looking more rose-like)?

I started with a pink block and it really just looks like crazy piecing rather than a rose and I think a few extra rounds might help a bit - but none of my leftover fabric is long enough. This has been a fun block to make, and a total learning experiance for me!!

Hi Ange - yes - happy for you to go for your heart's content - it is a kindov abstract 'rose', so I am sure I will love however it turns out. I am perfectly happy for big ones and for small ones, so don't stress if you think it is too small.

Thanks Kelly!!

Hi Bron, I posted your blocks back today too. I am not so happy with them, I am worried they are too angular, and not rosy enough. I am happy to make you some more with my stash in the pink/green colours if you are unhappy. Hope you had a great break .
Cheers

I'm so pleased to see that you have mine - I had a little bit of a panic yesterday when the envelope wasn't where I expected it to be. I was going to have a decent search for it tomorrow when the kids went to school. I would never have guessed that I'd already posted it!!

Bronwyn,

I posted my block on Wednesday. let me know when it arrives. I had a bit of a run in with the postal lady. She charged me enough that it should have arrive the day before I sent it. Next time I will just bite my lip and say that there is only paper in the envelope.

Amy I got your block - thank you! Yes I did notice the rather high postage for such a small package - I think we are at the PO's mercy most of the time! Check up on your Postal rates for packages ie size and 'width' - usually what we send is within 'letter' size and weight - can't hurt to quote them their own specs!
