marcopperman ADMIN January 16, 2013
Welcome! This is a place for hike participants, volunteers and city staff to share their experiences. These lands and the experiences on them deserve to be showcased. As a note, do not post photos of city parks here. This is for BCP/WQPL preserves only, or events sponsored by the Wildland Conservation Division.

See the WCD page for info on the preserve's mission and management.

Group Description

Devoted to photos of experiences and subjects on Austin's Balcones Canyonlands Preserves (BCP) and Water Quality Protection Lands (WQPL). BCP lands protect several endangered species, while WQPL preserves help protect the integrity of our water source, the Barton Springs unit of the Edwards Aquifer.

This group is not officially endorsed by the City of Austin's Water Utility / Wildlands Conservation Division, nor any of its staff. (Though they are welcome to participate!) Please do not contact them with concerns about this Flickr group. However, they would love to hear your questions and comments about the preserves themselves.

For more information on the preserves, their mission and management, please see the City's site at:

Group Rules

1) Please, no geo-tagged images. The wildlands are protected, sensitive areas with strictly-enforced access policies. Directions to the properties are only given to those people with authorization to access them. Geotags may encourage people to find and access these lands in an unauthorized manner. Additionally, because these properties are part of our water utility, they are protected under various laws pertaining to infrastructure security.

2) If you photograph people on the wildlands, please understand that you may not have their express consent to post photos of them here (or elsewhere). It is your responsibility as a photographer to obtain the proper consent from those you photograph.

3) If a photo contains your likeness and you object to it being here, please contact the photographer and ask them to remove it. If this fails, contact a group admin. Please do not contact City staff.

Also, because I'm serious about the geotagging issue, I may contact you and ask you to remove your geotag info from photos in the pool. I respect if you don't respond or don't want to, but I may remove your geotagged photos from the pool.

Please do not contact City staff about any of this. They are not responsible for this group.
