About Homeless in Austin

The objective of this pool is to use photography to increase public awareness of the problems of chronic homelessness in our community. It is a complex problem that affects many different people.

Many people who have homes and jobs tend to look away when we encounter a homeless person or pretend that homelessness doesn't exist. It is the intent of this group to shine the light on the reality of homeless life, to demonstrate the diversity of homeless persons and homeless families in Austin... to present a more complete and accurate picture of homelessness than you get in the corporate media.

Please share your images that tell the story of homelessness in Austin and Central Texas. These images might show joy or sorrow, shame or pride, strength, fear and/or other human emotions. But they must be real, and they must be respectful of the subjects pictured.

It is our intent that the images displayed here will help people who have shelter (and jobs and safety and security) better understand and respect those who do not.
