Time about 10-4pm then debrief at the pub.

When? Where? Who?

Who's up for organising the next one?

I'm thinking with makeup artists, costumes or a theme.

Volunteers?

Chika: Does your email contain information regarding equipment to bring?

Gear: not in my email. I assume everyone brings their triggers and strobes. Then bring your camera with a lens, light stands and brollies. Then anything else. If you have a good prop for a shoot bring it.

I'm hoping that the 3 who said they have backgrounds and stands will bring them:
Craig Nye Photo white backdrop
woofw a couple of muslins and gauze with stand.
vegemite69 1 x White 1X Black and stand

Email sent to everyone on the main list and some of the models whose emails I had.

Of course, I forgot to say:
You'll need to factor in set up time, pack up time and moving location into your hour. So pack up the current location 5 mins before the end of the session time.
ie. Be at your new location for the start of the next session. It's a great idea to
appoint a time keeper for each location/session. They'll also need to know where your next location will be.

FAQs
Q: Will you confirm if we need to bring gear other than cameras /lenses etc. I
am assuming that these stations will be set up and us 'togs will use
whatever triggers you have decided on? i.e. we don't need to bring the
triggers?

A: if you have them, bring your triggers & let me know what
type they are. If you don't have triggers, that's fine.

Bring your lightstands, umbrellas, strobes as well.

The idea is that you'll pool your lighting gear with the other 3 or 4
of your group. People need to cooperate and respect each other's gear.

I'm assigning groups so that there should be a few triggers amongst
the group.

I'm happy to share my wizards/strobes within a group without much gear.
I have 4 wizards, 3x SB800's also can do Nikon CLS with an SU 800 have snoots, gels, stands, brollies etc, so throw me into a group with people with minimal kit / beginners
Also have a clunky but functional backdrop with grey backdrop and stands if required. Think I might need a Ute, so much for minimalist :-)

woofw  Pro User  says:

I'll bring the triggers, defusers, umbrella, stands, I've a Sony camera with 2xflash, not sure if it works for everyone but the triggers will on other flashes. If I bring the backdrops, needs steaming out the creases tho' and there's lots to cart along unless someone can help with the load. Exactly where is the location and parking facilities? That might help with the load if it's close.

yep that's correct, Alpha100 with wireless flash X2, soft box, flip it difuser, umbrella with stand that I could bring along. Got a trigger with 2 recievers but does not fit into the minolta flash. I can trigger other flashes with the recievers

I'll put you in the same group. Youll have to play with 2 others as well though.

hangingpixels is out. So An English Gentleman is in.

Have amended the date in the waiver doc. Thanks to hawkeye daniel.

Thanks Clive.

Lost 2 models overnight! If anyone knows of another model at short notice please let me and Edward Hor know asap.

Pocket wizard question: Do Pocket Wizards, PW 2, PW Plus II and PW Multimax talk with each other?

If you have PWs, bring them because you're probably the leader/mainstay of a group.

So i guess i'll be a mainstay/leader then :)

I'll have a my white cyc backdrop, but only 1 lighstand (my smaller two are casualties of war). 2 Nikon SB-800's, a few umbrellas, 3 swivel mounts and 4 x PocketWizzrd Plus II's.

I'll see if I can pick up some tile board beforehand as well.

Not sure if a Pocket Wizard Plus II channel 1 = Pocket Wizard (n) channel 1, if so then there might be a few unwanted strobes going off so might need to designate a PW Plus II channel per group.
If it's a drama I can always fall back onto Nikon CLS

Parking wise

I worked in the area a few years ago before it become all high arise apartments and the only option beside meter parking was the Casino just 2 streets below or along Harris Street.

Check this out:

chikabelley is a group administrator chikabelley says:

There's 6 hr parking along Bank St. Might need to compete with the dragonboat people for spots though.

There should be enough room inside to set up 2 backgrounds only. These backgrounds should remain in place for the day.

If more backgrounds turn up the next logical spot is in the courtyard. The tricky part is to bring enough backgrounds to have at least 2 in the room.

Remember you also need to be portable enough to move locations 5 times.

Clothing: It's optional for the models. ;)

Basically the models are free to bring a selection of clothes of their choosing.

As per the 3rd document: Well, the theme suggestions were: princess, carnival, retro, vogue or pin up. I didn't think gothic would work very well in bright daylight.
Posted 46 months ago. (permalink)

Psinewave says:

What's wrong with gothic in bright daylight? I'm sure a contrast theme could be had ... in fact if we got enough light to knock out the daylight I'm sure a very interesting daylight gothic theme could be had ... hmm ...

It sounds like we'll have to wing it on the day. I don't know what the models look like, what they'll be wearing, or what sort of mood and feel we'll aim to achieve.

Xenedis  Pro User  says:

Using the inverse square law, we can completely blacken the background, and use moody lighting arrangements to bring a gothic-looking model "out of the shadows.

This sort of thing:

All your triggers/receivers & SU 800
1-3 light stands & adaptors
1-4 umbrellas
gels, snoots, etc.

No problem JC.

Weather permitting, little wind, sunny day, and depending on model numbers, some of the groups will have a real assignment as 1 of the rotations. There's a commuity bbq going on in the pyrmont town square. They are raisng awareness to start a community bank. They'd like a few photos of the event for publicity and records. I'm on the committee. You'd get free sausages!

It's about a 200 m walk down the road.

It'd be a good strobist challenge working in a real environment and with strobes and multiple people.

Likewise for the BBQ, i would be interested in working that spot.
A general question. Are zoom lenses generally more favoured than primes in these scenarios (small confinements) or does it boil down to personal choice/taste?
Posted 46 months ago. (permalink)

view photostream

Xenedis  Pro User  says:

Re prime vs. zoom, it comes down to personal preference.

I'm bringing only primes to this shoot.

Re the BBQ coverage, I'm not keen on that, and would personally rather stick to the planned shoot, esp. as this is my first Strobist meet.
