I had more fun that way. I used to go to dragoncon all the time when I was younger/college. I'm kinda burnt on seeing the presentations...but the freaks/geeks are always a treat!

if it has pointy ears? it's from lord of the rings
if it has a turtle for a head? it's from star trek
if it is wearing a masked helmet and/or hooded cloak? it's from star wars
if it has teeth? it's a vampire
it it looks like something from the special olympics? it's Wanananga

I object to being termed a freak and geek. The technical term is Geek, only.
D*C is great for photography of random (somewhat) famous genre people. I'm renting a fast long lens from PPR this year so I don't need to chase everyone around with my 70mm. And, hey! Elizabeth Rohm will be there this year. That's good enough for me.
I believe the only hotel with photography restrictions this year is the Hyatt, on one floor, between 8 and 12 PM. Everywhere else is fair game. The door wardens are pretty strict about not letting anyone without a pass get in, though, so you'll need to be sneaky.

Dang it Scott! You weren't supposed to tell people about my costume! It was gonna be a surprise! Now I'll have to come up with something even super cooler. Maybe a pointy-eared turtle in a cloak?

ha ha, the only reason I picked hooters is because of the buffalo fried shrimp (I love it). The girls there do very little for me (the whole squishy socks up your knees and tight orange pants is so 2001)

Shaun - We go where we have to go. Especially if we don't make our saving throw.
Scott - Where did this talk of Hooters come in?? Sure I like big breasted vacuous broads as much as the next guy (provided we're talking about another homo) but I've never had good food at a Hooters. Do they really have something worth eating?
(And yes, I know they aren't all big breasted nor are they all vacuous, but cope with the hyperbole biatches! I ain't no hooter hater.)

I'm definitely going to make it to the parade. I'm not sure about the evening get together.
Being a profesisonal nerd, I'm actually in Indianapolis this week for GenCon (the biggest gaming/geek convention in the country). Since I'm working though, I haven't had many chances to take pictures.
Dragon Con's always fun - if anyone hasn't seen the parade down Peachtree before, it's quite a spectacle.

I stood in line 3 hours to get it... also Saturday...
Granted that was sometime ago (this would have been my 10th) so maybe the day pass lines have improved??

Ohmy... yea, I don't think I'll be going. $40 covers groceries... Groceries will always be more important to me than DragonCon, hah. BUT thanks everyone for getting back to me so quickly! I can't believe it's so much! I work 3 days to get that much money hahaha
Thanks again!

Nrbelex, passes aren't needed for the parade, it's just crowded
at night it's just freak (like wanananga) walking around posing for pictures. the parade is more formal. there is no promises you'll run into freaks at night. It maybe that we just have beer and go home...
BUT
that's highly unlikely

okay kiddies, I'll be at Dragoncon all day today. Call me if you want to meet up before hand.
For those of you who don't know me or know what I look like, here is some shots to pick me out of a crowd:
www.flickr.com/photos/sthig/sets/653497/
I'll be in khaki cargo pants and a black t-shirt (like every other con person). In big crowds, I don't hear well, so you'll need to actually grab my shoulder if you see me.
