The results for 2009 are in, so congratulations everyone. You can also see your pictures taking pride of place on the Royal Observatory’s website. So if you want to know what the judges thought then take a look there. Of course, all the winning images plus photos taken by all our amazingly talented group members are also on show at the exhibition, which opens tomorrow, Thursday 10 September. It’s free so we’d love it if you came! And keep snapping – entries for Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2010 open in the New Year.

Just to say a huge thank you to the RGO team for a wonderful night. The planetarium display was magical, and so many nice and welcoming people.

As a shortlisted entrant my wife & I would also like to thank all at the RGO for an excellent night. The organisation was superb from the wine/nibbles to the exhibition itself and the mini bus/driver that returned us to our hotel afterwards.
Congratulations to all the winners and especially Martin Pugh for a well deserved "Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2009" ;-)

Firstly, my congratulations to all of those placed across all categories in this competition, and of course to the ROG team for making it all happen.

I am of course deeply honoured to have been named Astronomy Photographer of the Year, and only wish I could have made the long haul trip from the US where I am currently living (temporarily).

I wish there was a YouTube video I could watch of the event!

An overview of the competition result now sits very proudly alongside an article describing the release of an Australian postage stamp (25 Aug) featuring another image of mine. If you wish, you can read all about that at www.martinpughastrophotography.id.au.

so once again, thank you everyone, I am beaming from ear to ear.

best regards and clear skies

Wow, to paraphrase Jaws, "I'm gonna need a bigger telescope." But seriously, congratulations to all the winners. Those photos are stunning.

Perhaps the images above would be an ideal application of Flickr's new Galleries feature. What does everyone else think?

Great idea markkilner! We’ve just made a gallery of the judges’ picks. And we’d love it if group members made galleries of their favourites photos from the group – and shared them with everyone else too.

Congratulations to the winners and runners up in this competition. The overall standard of the entries was very high, a true testament to the high quality of work that amateurs can produce these days.

Congratulations Martin!

I made it down to the event a bit late as I got stuck in the London traffic. I arrived in time to see your image on the screen and I can tell you there were a lot of oohs and aars from the crowd! I think the whole event was a big success, so roll on next year!
