About Assen
Assen is the capital of the Dutch province Drenthe.
Assen's history began in the thirteenth century. Cistercian nuns build a convent (Maria in Campis - or Mariënkamp) on a piece of land between Witten and Rolde, which farmers there called Hassen or Assen.
Apart from the town of Assen, the municipality contains the villages of Witten and Loon, Rhee, Ter Aard, Ubbena, a part of Vries, Zeijen, Zeijerveen and Zeijerveld.
Nowadays Assen is worldwide known for the Dutch TT, but there is a lot more to discover in Assen.
