About ARTrageous Friends of the Smithsonian American Art Museum spent a fabulous evening at the annual gala, ARTrageous, on February 26, 2009. This year the museum celebrated Modern Head, the 31-foot, steel sculpture by Roy Lichtenstein, a new bright blue landmark on the corner of the museum that has generated considerable buzz among spectators and the community. That electric blue dazzled as well on gala night, when the museum rolled out the “blue carpet” and illuminated the Kogod Courtyard (named one of seven “new” wonders by CondeNast Traveler magazine) in blue radiance. The ARTrageous event supports exciting programs at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and its Renwick Gallery, from talks with artists to lively musical performances to Family Day workshops.
