About Archetypes

"The contents of the collective unconscious are called archetypes. Jung also called them dominants, imagos, mythological or primordial images, and a few other names, but archetypes seems to have won out over these.
An archetype is an unlearned tendency to experience things in a certain way.
The archetype has no form of its own, but it acts as an "organizing principle" on the things we see or do. It works the way that instincts work in Freud's theory: At first, the baby just wants something to eat, without knowing what it wants. It has a rather indefinite yearning which, nevertheless, can be satisfied by some things and not by others. Later, with experience, the child begins to yearn for something more specific when it is hungry... "
"The archetype is like a black hole in space: You only know its there by how it draws matter and light to itself."
The collective unconcious. Those images which are seared deep within our minds.. through the ages. Common human imagery. Images that are timesless and strike a chord deep within those who view them.
some examples that may be illustrated through your images....
death...creation...the child...the hero... the seductress/whore... the shadow... the earth.. spirit.. the goddess.. the mask... demons/satan... sin... war... guilt... wild beasts... mantras...pilgrimage... wholeness...exile...the body... memory... sadness... mirrors... the hermit... addiction... renewal...time... liberation... money... the hunter... solitude...power... the city... twins... the stranger... Eros... prophecy...the soul... peace... grief... release... abandonment... exquisite joy... anima... animus...
Note: If you're not sure what to post, go ahead and post. completely optional: give a description of what archetype your image represents, or strong emotion it evokes in you.
I will never delete an image which contains your personal explanation of why it moves you ... and your reason for posting it in archetypes.
I'm not big into enforcing rules, but if the image is non-descript, doesn't seem to have relevance to the topic, (or in the case of one or both...doesn't include a desciption) it may be deleted.
Here are some other examples of how to find Archetypal images in your stream...
- images that evoke strong emotions... even if you don't know why...
- images that remind you of dreams you've had or someone else hasdescribed to you...
- images of people in all stages of life that illustrate a strong connection to that stage in life...that are not portrait based
- dark images (psychologically, literally, etc.)
- light images (psychologically, literally, etc...) but in a more surreal sense, not an obvious "smiling ear-to-ear" sense..
