What are Aporophyllums ?
Aporophyllums are hybrids of Epiphyte type cacti (Epi Cacti) that can be crosses of several jungle cacti genera or species of Aporocactus then crossed primarily with Epiphyllums. Several other jungle cacti genera could also be used though as a cross to produce Aporophyllums such as Disocactus or Heliocereus. 'APOROPHYLLUM'was a tern coined by Harry Johnson (Paramount hybrids) an early American hybridizer of Aporophyllums. The word Aporophyllum is generally a term used by growers in mostly North America, growers in other parts including Europe often use the term "Epi Cactus" as some may have no Aporocactus parentage at all and are more of a mixture of various Epiphyllums or other jungle cacti genera crosses.

Aporophyllums do have growth traits or habits that all generally shared making them very recognizable. These are narrow growth stems that may be many ribbed stem edges or even cylindrical rope like stems with small spines as Aporocactus or some Disocactus species may have. Most also are pendant in growth form. As most Aporophyllums tend to be pendant, Aporophyllums look best when displayed in hanging baskets with there numerous blooms popping from several long pendant stems. Aporophyllums are very profuse bloomers with blooms often almost covering the entire plants growth from view. Also Aporophyllums are very easy to care for and can withstand severe neglect yet still produce many blooms.
