Indeed!
What would also be cool would be a way via the API to discover the "people" accounts attached to institutions... the collections managers etc. Especially for those institutions that have content in accounts that pre-date the commons effort.

Very good! More, please! (And, is it worth mentioning here how to hack the license set up to show off Commons pics?)

For any not privy to what george means...
recently photos.search was upgraded to include an is_commons boolean flag (very useful, thanks). Though I can think of other methods that I'd love to filter by license type and in/out of commons. ;-) Particularly favorites.getPublicList
Previously license=7 was the same thing as is_commons, but I hear that might be in flux.

Hey, is there a way to select a random photo from within a particular institution's Common's collection?
Say, if I wanted to select one from the Brooklyn Museums collection - which flag (other than is_commons) would I want to set?
Thanks!

By the way, our iPhone app that allows you to tag images from Flickr Commons just got through the app store process! So, now you can tag when you're on the go. We intend to add more nonprofity tasks to the list, but right now it's got only Flickr Commons tagging tasks. And it's still real early in development - we're just playing with the possibilities.
We're in a limited open-source phase right now (invitation only). If you'd like to get in on the code, just let me know.

Also, I'm wondering if there's an easy way to get a batch list of all of the photoIDs in each Common's collection.
I'd like to have this list in my internal database - so that I can more easily manage tags, descriptions, do duplicate checking, and do submissions back to the Commons in a nightly cron job, versus on the spot

I guess you want to do a call to flickr.commons.getInstitutions to get a list of NSIDs and then use flickr.photos.search for each NSID in turn (specifying the is_commons flag).

I am seeing a bug where, when specifying my user ID and is_commons with no other options, my entire photoset is returned as the results. I do not have any photos that should match.
