Nice smooth tweening!
Are you using BitmapData.draw() to crop the image or are you just repositioning a large MovieClip?
Either way it's great to see another minimalist Flash app :)
I like it!

thanks :)
i'm not doing anything clever with bitmapdata, as it seems to be fast enough already - well, at least in fullscreen, but then that takes advantage of hardware. If it chugs too much outside of fullscreen, then i'll try some blitting or similar..
i've got a few ideas for enhancements to this as well.. when i have the time!

Out of interest, i've made a couple of updates, including not panning if it's not needed, and a loading bar.
i quite like this... :)

nice. Is this all AS3?
It seems that the right click "Zoom In / Out" features don't work correctly.

Wow, this looks very good and something that have been thinking of. One item that would love would be to have the image fit the browser screen versus showing with panning. Also, I though with the latest flash you can also make it go full screen and even hide the browser. Can be a nice little feature too showing say a button on the lower tight hane side that can toggle that.
FYI - This reminds me somehwta of piclens ( www.piclens.com/site/safari/ )
Also, runs fine on my MAC here (just checked a couple of times)

@jhey: Yeah, it's all AS3 :) I've disabled the context menu now.
@gus_estrella: It was going fullscreen already, but perhaps you missed that? Could you see if it works on the mac? You just need to click it to toggle fullscreen.
I added a few extra things too - like select available sizes, and it'll even work with any image on any domain if it has a valid crossdomain.xml (eg: this image on my website
Here's a new example of a
fullscreen flickr image
...and here's a direct link
Any feedback anyone? :)

Really a cool little app! Some photos just don't really shine when shown in smaller sizes, with the whole flickr interface around it.
Do you use actionscript or javascript for the fullscreen functionality?
And would it be possible to make the direct link even more direct? I have to click twice to actually go fullscreen.

Hey eerkmans,
it's all actionscript. At the moment Flash forces the user to click to go fullscreen, and there's no way around that... yet. if Adobe change that, i'll definitely implement it :)

Is there an easy way to return to the Flickr page? If there is, I missed it somehow. Perhaps clicking in the image will bring you back.

Very impressive! When the photo is large enough to scroll, the resulting experience is VERY engaging - almost like you're experiencing the scene first hand!

Very nice yezzer! I love how smooth it pans.
I am currently just learning actionscript 2.0 at uni... I hate it how everything you learn at a university is out dated... (at least in cenral Queensland Australia) only way to learn is on your own I rekon.
I can't wait to start playing with actionscript 3.0 when I'm finished my course. It looks so much smoother/faster than 2.0. Is it totally different syntax to 2.0 or will it be easy to transition into?

@noyzy: thanks :)
in my opinion - forget AS2 completely. Concentrate completely on AS3, you will *not* regret it :D
