Attention Ansel Members: It appears that there is a small glitch with Flickr. In order to have your photos appear in a Flickr Group you must have uploaded 5 or more images to the Flickr site in general. This is preventing some of our members images from showing up when viewed in a slideshow (like we are doing in our gallery and the SJMA site). Please take the time to upload a few more images to Flickr to ensure your one photo is included in our group.

Group Description

Submit your Ansel Adams-inspired photographs to be part of a looping slideshow at the San Jose Museum of Art. Experience how artists have been influenced by the natural world and use your ability to capture, in your own unique way, the essence of natural beauty.

PLEASE SUBMIT ONLY ONE IMAGE!

Ansel Adams: Early Works is on view September 5, 2009 – February 28, 2010 at the San Jose Museum of Art. Ansel Adams – photographer, musician, naturalist, explorer, critic and teacher – was a giant in the field of landscape photography and a native Californian. This exhibition focuses on the masterful, small-scale prints made by Adams from the 1920s to the 1950s. During this time, Adams’s printing style evolved from his soft-focus, warm-toned, painterly “Parmelian prints” of the 1920s; through the sharp-focused photography of the f/64 school that he co-founded with Edward Weston and Imogen Cunningham in the 1930s; to the cooler, higher-contrast approach he embraced thereafter.

Some Guidelines:

PLEASE SUBMIT ONLY ONE IMAGE!

We are excited about the response, but worried about the number of submissions per person. We want to make sure that we are able to represent everyone in the looping slideshow in a timely manner. To do so we need to limit submissions to your one BEST photo. By doing this our visitors will not have to wait hours to see a certain picture.

If you already submitted multiple pictures, we would love for you to highlight your absolute BEST photo. Sorry for any confusion.

We want to avoid being the judge of your best shot and leave it up to you. If multiple images are submitted SJMA's personal preference might be different from your own so please choose wisely.

Be patient! Photos submitted are moderated for your safety. :0) It might take a day or two to approve them.

By submitting your photos you are allowing the San Jose Museum of Art the high honor of displaying your photo via a monitor during the exhibition.

Unfortunately we cannot display those lovely pictures of your family because of clearance issues. We highly recommend that you post them to your account though!

Don't limit yourself to Black and White only! While Ansel Adams was very well known for this type of photography, he also turned out some outstanding color photos as well.
