About Anpanman!
Anpanman, the superhero whose head is made of bean-filled bread, is possibly the most popular cartoon in Japan [with under-fives, anyway]. He loses his special powers if his head is damaged, but his baker dad Jam Ojisan can bake a new one whenever he needs it. I bonded with a Japanese toddler over our love for Baikinman, the bacteriaridden arch-villain.
Invented by Yanase Takashi, Anpanman and all the other made-from-food characters that inhabit Anpanland appear in books, on tv and in hundreds of toys and games. There's a shop devoted to Anpanman product in Shiodome, Tokyo and even an Anpanman museum in Shikoku, southern Japan where the cartoonist Yanase lives.
There must be hundreds of photos of anpanman and friends on flickr and now there's a place to put them!
