10 Jul 09 - Wilkommen, bienvenu and orlroight. You have arrived at Anglia Square sharpin' centre and will find a host of delights before you, pound shops, Kewdee, Iceland, coughing, hotdogs, graffiti and litter. Architectural oddities, an unfinished second storey, empty government buildings and the largest cinema in Norfolk (in 1975), There's even a multi-storey car park to pitch coke cans off or jump off if it gets too much.

I hope you enjoy your visit, please wipe your feet when you leave.

About HMSO and Anglia Square

This group is to celebrate the life and ultimately the death of one of the finest and nastiest pieces of 1960s and 1970s bad town planning in Norwich. The site is in the North City and any local photographers familiar with it's sinking battleship silhouette will have formed some sort of relationship with it, possibly a love one, or a hate one, or a strangely mixed one like some of us.

It does take a nice picture though.

Feel free to add what you want, pics of the buildings, including Anglia Square, Sovereign House, The old Odeon, Gildengate House, the Car Parks, the environs and locale, the people, the graffiti, and detail. Also historical shots that relate to the site.

It's on it's way out soon in stages over the next 5 years, with development of the Sovereign House site being penciled in for next year, and the changes to the road system happening in the autumn of 2009. Part of the aim of the group is to catalogue it's demise, and to capture whatever rises out of the dust and bent steel. There will also be a comprehensive dig on the site, which will give us a window into the Anglia Square of Anglo Saxon times.
