About An Gleann Mòr (The Great Glen)

An Gleann Mòr, (The Great Glen), is a large geological fault, which runs for over 100 kilometres from Inverness, on the Moray Firth, to Fort William, at the head of Loch Linnhe.

The Glen has always been a natural travelling route in the Highlands of Scotland, and incorporates the Caledonian Canal and A82 road.

The Glen runs along:

* River Ness
* Loch Dochfour
* Loch Ness
* River Oich
* Loch Oich
* Loch Lochy
* River Lochy
* Loch Linnhe

The Great Glen Way was officially opened on the 30th of April 2002 by H.R.H. Prince Andrew, Earl of Inverness.

The route, which spans 73 miles/117km between Fort William and Inverness, can be walked in 5-6 days.
