About American ElegyThe America of the 21st century is drastically different from the America that existed up through the 1970s, when a measure of atomic age pride ran through the fabric of our culture. Burgeoning US industry and the oncoming space-age had somewhat shaped our idea of the future, as well as our design culture. The style of the architecture, automobiles, and even advertising, all seemed to point to a promising future for America and its citizens. The remnants of that age now dot our land, along with the dislocated and faceless sprawl that now inhabits much of the American landscape. |
