About Amarna Art

The Amarna Period was a unique time in the history of ancient Egypt, centred around King Akhenaten of Dynasty XVIII, who some call the 'Heretic King'. He left his native Thebes to found a new city near Mallawi in Middle Egypt, which he named Akhetaten, after the sun-deity he worshipped exclusively, the Aten. His city which we now call Tell el-Amarna, has produced a wealth of information about this short and still somewhat mysterious period.
