About alt.digital
Alternative and/or experimental digital photography.
We support:
- mavicas and other floppy disk cameras (but no disc film cameras)
- other special format digital cameras
- still video cameras (this does NOT include screenshots/screencaps from video clips)
- modified scanners
- modified webcams
- modified cameraphones
- other modified or partly broken digital cameras (the malfunction has to have a visible effect on the final image)
- digital pinhole photography
- gameboy cameras
- other vintage / retro digital cameras
- picures of equipment: Posting "how-to's" and pictures of the equipment you use to take your alternative digital shots is allowed and encouraged. In this case you are allowed to use any camera you find convenient to photograph your gear.
Many of the images are going to be produced with lo-fi equipment, but we would welcome extremely hi-fi images as well: Surprise us with a gigapixel camera or electron microscope scans!
Special rules about cameraphones:
1. If your cameraphone is new, it has to be modified in a way or another in order to be allowed to post images to this group. It doesn't have to be complicated. Simple DIY lens attachment will do. Daily snapshots with your regular new camera phone is not alternative digital photography.
2. If your cameraphone could be described as "old", "retro" or "vintage" then it'll be okay to post images without any modifications to the equipment. Use your own judgement, but please keep in mind that your gear should be somehow "special", alternative. Three years old is not old.
If you like alternative methods of film photography, please take a look at the "original" alt. group.
