About Algae
The wonderful world of algae encompasses land and sea, desert and ice. They help create unique features such as coral reefs, supply much of the earth's oxygen, and provide sustenance for countless creatures.
Open to any form of alga, including seaweed and kelp ("benthic algae"), phytoplankton, pond scum, algal blooms, dinoflagellates ("red tide"), stramenopiles, diatoms, terrestrial algae, and snow algae.
Photos of algae's symbiotic partnerships, such as lichens and coral reefs, are encouraged. You can also get creative with your contributions, for instance photos of fossilized algae remains (e.g. diatomaceous earth) or algal microscopy.
Also visit www.algaebase.org/ for more information about distribution and taxonomy of algae.
