About Alachua County, FL
This group is for any photos taken in Alachua County, Florida.
Alachua County is located in North Central Florida and is bordered by the following counties: Bradford, Union, Putnam, Marion, Levy, Gilchrist, and Columbia. It includes the following incorporated cities and towns: Alachua, Archer, Gainesville, Hawthorne, High Springs, LaCrosse, Micanopy, Newberry, and Waldo. It also includes the unincorporated communities of Jonesville and Haile Plantation.
The county is perhaps most well known as being home of the world famous University of Florida, the state's flagship public university. Much of the economy of the county revolves around the university, which enrolls more than 50,000 students and is the third largest in the nation.
The county is home to some wonderful natural attractions, including Biven's Arm Nature Park, Devil's Millhopper State Geological Site, Kanapaha Botanical Gardens, Paynes Prairie State Preserve, San Felasco Hammock State Preserve, and many more.
There are also a number of world-class museums in the county, such as the Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art, and the Florida Musuem of Natural History. The county is also home to the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Historic State Park. Rawlings is best known as the author of The Yearling, which won the 1939 Pulizter Prize for fiction.
