About Akron Art Museum Plastic Camera Show
From camera phones to the death of Polaroid film, modern technology seems determined to digitize photography, but some of the most popular cameras today are simple, plastic models.
Over the next few months we want to see your vision of Ohio. Pick up a plastic camera and start shooting—take your camera out and about in Highland Square, capture the cool curves of the Akron Art Museum or the delicious contents of your favorite drive-in hamburger joint. We want to see Northeast Ohio at its best and brightest, via your pinhole images, fishbowl vignettes and supersaturated vintage- looking prints. To help give you a little inspiration we’re offering you five different categories inspired by some of twentieth century’s greatest photographers: Diane Arbus-Freaks and Geeks, Cindy Sherman-Self-Portraiture, Ansel Adams-Landscape, Weegee-Life on the Street, and Warhol-People and Pop Culture.
Selected works will be on view in the Akron Art museum’s Corbin Foundation Gallery October 18 through January 11, 2009. Entries are due September 19. Works are also virtually on view at the art museum's flickr page.
Plastic cameras are available for purchase at the Akron Art Museum store as well as via many online retailers.
