About Ajanta & Ellora
Wonders of the world near Aurangabad in Maharashtra state India.
These are huge constructions cut from rock and including meditation halls, temples, sleeping quarters, stairs and constructed many stories high in the cliffs. Statues of Buddha, large columns and entrances similar to Greek ones and paintings of saints with halos. They were inhabited by Buddhists, Jains and Hindus for hundreds of years but fell into disuse about 1000 years ago. Sometimes mis-spelled as Ajunta and Elora.
