About Against Large Graphics (in comments) Group
Please Note!: This group is NOT against small Group-Award type Icons; small Smiley's and small graphics of that sort!!
We are opposed to the LARGE 'copy and paste' type graphics that often take up as much space as the photograph itself, and often BLINK , Move and/or appear Glittery.
We are against these sort of Large Graphics for the following reasons:
1) They are distracting and can easily draw attention away from the actual photograph.
2) They begin to 'clutter' up the comments section under the photograph.
3) The 'copy and paste' Code for these graphics can sometimes contain viruses that when placed on your page can cause it to crash.
4) These graphics are usually 'click-able' and contain advertisement information for the web site they were taken from. One great thing about Flickr is it's advertisement free, we feel it should stay that way.
5) If you get a few of these on your photo's page, it begins to cause the page to load slowly.
6) These Large Graphics are often used in place of any kind of personal comment on the photo. We would much rather receive even a one word personal comment, than a Large Flashing Graphic.
______________________________________________________
It is understandable that most people mean well when they add these Large Graphics to your comment section, because they are 'common place' on some web sites and often used in those places as a means of communication.
However, Flickr is different and unique! Flickr is about personal creativity and personal interaction. We believe Flickr should remain personal, original...authentic.
This particular sort of Large Graphics are starting to become more and more common place on Flickr. As we begin to see more of these, we have to wonder if it will eventually become 'the accepted means of communication' on Flickr.
If you visit other web sites on the internet where these Large Graphics are the common means of communication you will find these sites are very impersonal and shallow in their overall content. (myspace is a good example)
We are coming together as a group to say, "Let's not let this get out of hand on our Flickr."
If you are in agreement with what we stand for, please join our group.
