About Agadir Old and New
Agadir is an old city with a tragic history. In addition to the terrible loss of life in the earthquake, its physical legacy was dealt a terrible blow. Much of the necessary subsequent rebuilding seems at best 'pleasant' and at worst 'sterile'. In the last 50 years tourism has grown enormously. The prediction is that it will continue to grow incrementally. In common with the rest of the country, its population has exploded, with many parts of the outskirts of the city being turned into vast building sites as housing expands to meet urgent needs. I think there's a need for a site on flickr which serves to document the old and the new Agadir. I feel the site should be administered by someone from the city, certainly by a Moroccan, who loves and cares about it. Meantime, as an occasional visitor with a certain affection for the place, I'm happy to start the ball rolling by putting up a few of my own images.
