On the 12th of September 2009 at a place called Vel Mal Kema, Yala National Park, we were sitting motionless in our jeep and waiting for the next move of this strongly grown apex predator in Sri Lanka - just about 8-10 meters away from its nerve wrecking presence.
With downwind, we scented blood and our experienced tracker did not need much time to spot a fresh carcass of a massive sambar lying on the ground beside the rock. The half eaten body parts suggested that the predator have had a good meal throughout the night or may be early morning.
The leopard looked relaxed and was not intimidated by a dozen of safari jeeps had appeared at a close range, but made sure to glance through all of us time to time - and this is the moment he fixed its menacing gaze on me. "Come on you fat guy, just take one step out of your little territory and you'll be dead meat" - I have no doubt that was what this lip lapping leopard had in mind at the moment I captured this photo.

It was a rat race to catch the big cat (safari jeeps trail behind the leopard).

This was the first elephant we come across at Yala on our Adventure Sri Lanka 3rd event. Elephant treat a safari jeep with some dry soil. There was only three single elephants we sow. Since it is the last days of drought, it is very hard to spot an elephant at Yala Ruhuna National Park. We were lucky to spot three. It was very unfortunate that we lost Kublai Khan. If not, it is a common site in Yala block one.

Thanks guys. I think 50% of credit should go to the lens. Honestly, without a 500mm lens the shot wouldn't have been that intense.
BTW I have given a small account of my / our experience in the Yala trip at Sri Lanka Tourist Board's blog and I invite you to visit it. I appreciate your comments on that blog.
