Get it from Update (in the Help menu), or from here: http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshoplightroom/

Here's the online copy of the README, in PDF form. I strongly suggest reading it before making a new feature request -- there's a lot of new stuff, and it isn't all obvious.

Tom Hogarty, Adobe Lightroom Product Manager, has a blog post with more details at Lightroom Journal.

Victoria Bampton's Lightroom Services has an in-depth list of what's new in 1.1, and an updated complete list of keyboard shortcuts.

Martin Evening has an in-depth article at Lightroom News.

Sean McCormack has several blog posts on 1.1.

Jeffrey Friedl has a blog entry on 1.1, and has updated his Metadata Viewer Preset Builder with considerable additional functionality. This is a must-have, in my book. Here's my personal preset.

Richard Earney has published version 3 of Inside Lightroom Develop Presets at Inside Lightroom.

I'm sure you'll be able to find more information at the usual sites, like Lightroom Extra.

Make sure it opened the right Catalog (the new name for Libraries). Hold down Option while it is launching -- or whatever the equivalent is on Windows.

Also, Lightroom should have backed up your old Library before upgrading it; you could try putting it back in place and trying again.

My first impression is that the difference is speed is not insignificant. I normally work with the filmstrip and side panels off, and lately I had noticed that they had become pretty slow to appear on mouseover. With 1.1, they're really snappy. I haven't tried out the new tools yet, but so far I'm really pleased, and looking forward to digging in further. I'll have to get used to the more boxy look of the library side panel.

I just finished loading it up and converted a decent library - around 30k images. It took some time & the app itself nearly brought the computer to a halt after it started using around 1GB of RAM... see my screenshot from Lightroom 1.1

IMPORTANT: If you have a large library, expect to not see anything for quite a while after the "updating catalog" dialog disappears. Just go make some coffee & leave it be!! The process needs a lot of system resources, by the way, so go ahead and shut down your browser, etc. before you proceed.

Now that I've gotten past the initial load it seems to be running along just fine & possibly a little better than the previous 1.0 version did. I've got to get to bed, but I'll certainly be checking out the new features in the morning.

Oh that clarity tool is sweeeeeet

Will have a 3-4 figure photo import to do on Thursday night so we'll see how much better speed and reliability are - wish I didn't have to go to work!

And props to Adobe for releasing so soon after ACR 4.1 I was honestly expecting to have to wait for months.

I have about 10K of raw photos and the upgrade of the database has been running for 20 minutes now. I have a dual core E6700 with 4GB RAM and lightroom is currently using 500mb according to task manager. There is nothing onscreen to indicate LR 1.1 is upgrading the database as the initial dialogue has gone now. I wonder if it has crashed during the upgrade of the database..hmm..

I just had to be patient! It finished the update after about 30 mins.

I downloaded it and now it converts my 15k library on a fairly slow PC. Lets see how long it takes :| I will report.

Ok it was fewer than 20 min. I can't say it accurate, because I was not in front of my PC.

I must say - LR 1.1 feels very fast. I did not many things right now but it is much better. The new Metadata Browser maks fun. I can see all my ISO, Aperture, Shutter Speed values.

BIG PLUS: Keyword editing is instant now!

In LR 1.0 assigning a keyword to a photo takes about 10 to 20 seconds of full CPU load. Now it takes nothing.

Instead of clicking photo per photo to add keywords, you can click-drag and "spray" attributes onto photos. Its really quite cool!

30 minutes and playng with 6 previuos difficult pictures and I'm really impressed/happy!! Clarity, sharpness, defringe all great stuff. I think Lightroom can now finally do the bulk of my photo processing....

....only one minor annoyance found, Export no longer persists the last preset you used, doh.

With the spray can, can you pick up the keywords from another image, or do you always have to enter the list or copy and past from another image? Seems counterintuitive to me.

I do agree this is a good update though.

Yes! To rerender your previews you have to do a adjustment to all photos so that LR will do that. I use Quick Develop for that. I just add one step to exposure and revert them later. But I don't do it on all my photos - just to this which will look really awkward as thumbnail. All your new Exports will be rendered accurately in every case.

Much faster interface, but still, zooming in to 1:1 on photos in Develop takes a couple of seconds to de-pixelate. In Library it is (always has been) instant - very strange :(

I think this is because in Library, you zoom into the jpeg preview image, whereas in Develop, your zooming into a "live" image, so it has to de-mosaic and process the RAW on the fly.

Do you refer to the Nasty highlight problem in LR? I tried it and it works for me. I would recommend to open a new thread and post examples with your problem. Post the worst example on your cpu and if possible the right on a modern cpu.

This happens in JPEG images, even smaller (say 10%larger than the 1:1 size) files :(, but thanks for the thoughts :)

Interesting, I imported 499 pictures yesterday evening and then went downstairs. Decided to start looking through the images via Remote Control from my notebook downstairs - 470 images in whilst I'm running through the in progress import in Loupe view LR1.1 hangs the import.

Maybe I expect too much of an app and a Core2Duo system with 4GB of RAM :(

Also I noticed when it was prepping for import it took a loooong time "computing dates" when all the images taken within a 2 hour time frame that evening. Albeit on a D200 and S5.
