The name "Mariquina Santo" is derived from the old-Spanish name of the city; meanwhile, the term "Santo" refers to the venerated icons of the Christians. Marikina City is known as the "Shoe Capital of the Phillipines;" but for the Santo enthusiasts, it is tagged as the "Adiks Capital of the Philippines." The culture and tradition of the devotional and processional images in Marikina is a well-known place in the field of "Pagsasanto" like the showcase of icons during the Holy Week Processions, Santo Rosario Grand Procession, Marian Processions and Pista ng Bayan Procession among others. The attribution includes the 6th General Assembly of “Hermandad de la Sagrada Pasion de Jesus” which was held at Sentrong Pangkultura ng Marikina (Kapitan Moy), last July 2008. This said group is composed of santo owners, caretakers and enthusiasts from the Philippines, North America, Europe and the Middle East.
