18 Aug 09 - g'day folks - i've revived the administration of the group, and removed the off-target material - please let the distinctive shots that show the character of the city itself (and north adelaide and the parklands - but NOT the suburbs) roll in!...

About city of adelaide - the architecture and landscape

adelaide, capital city of south australia

the purpose of this group is to discuss the architecture, landscaping, street scenes, foyers, public sculptures, gardens - and any other public element - of the city of adelaide, south australia

there is one rule

rule one; the photo must be of an architectural or landscape subject (details and incidental people are fine) taken within 'the frame' of the city itself - that is, in adelaide, north adelaide, or the surrounding parklands - essentially the city as colonel light conceived it

so; rymill park is in - unley park is out! light square is in, henley square is out! le fevre terrace is in, stevens terrace is out; the central market is in, the fisherman's and farmer's markets are out; the festival centre is in but not the entertainment centre; and the botanic garden is fine but not the one at mount lofty... you dig?

please make sure you've clearly described where the shot was taken in the description and/or tags - if the shot's pretty abstract that may help convince us it was actually taken in adelaide!

sorry - this is not a pool for your shots of the suburbs (not even mile end, hackney, kent town, or the legendary 'north unley'! and, yes, glenelg is a suburb! there seems to be a remarkable amount of confusion about this...)

for your ex-urban masterpiece there's always the adelaide and SA central and all in adelaide pools - you are spoiled for choice!

and feel free to tell us what you think of the feature you've photographed in the description below it - do you really like it, think it's hideous; or are you unsure about it? and, naturally, anybody at all can comment on the architecture [ sculpture, landscaping, fountain etc. etc. ]

anyone - local, expatriate, or visitor - can join the group, bearing in mind the above criteria

to help promote the group the following is an html-link that you may copy and paste when you comment on photos in the pool:
