Hi All

Boomerang's hull and deck need cleaning and polishing.

The hull above the waterline has yellowish patches.

The deck is clean but lacks any shine or lustre.

I don't want to paint this year. I know many of you have done this job before so I'm looking for your experiences. I have a polishing machine but am unsure which pads do what and what are the best products to use.

I found Farecla G10 to be stunning. little effort for great results. Apply wet with water with slow speed polisher, when dry polish off with dry cloth.

Clean hull with any non abrasive household cleaner. Oil and paint can then be removed with a little bit of acetone on a rag. Then go for the yellow stains with y-10 fibreglass stain remover which is truly magical stuff. Wash with clean water and Then polish of your choice.
Achillies have great gel coat and results are usually stunning. Incidentally I found a Cheep polisher too heavy and energy better spent on old fashioned elbow grease.

I always call in Chilleprepper. He polished cars and boats for a living for many years before
David came along,
the pros use fareckla compounds and Autoglym polishes and a slow machine ...

Thanks Neil and Duncan.

Neil, is the G10 a cleaner or polish?

Duncan, how's that Beneteau 30 that got blown off it's cradle in Westport?

Thanks Ron.
We must have been typing at the same time.

She's been painted before. I think the original colour was sandstone.

G 10 is a cutting compound .. comes in various grits,,,,
Depends on how bad your finish is now ... To coarse and you can go through the paint. If using a machine.
Your yellow is probably seawater scum , Oxalic acid well diluted will move that.. Make shure you wear long rubber gloves . Can be nasty stuff
Cillit bang is oxalic acid........ Y10 is oxalic acid,, Even nastier.
Auto glym resin polish is excellent..

Farecla do various grades to cut back and then finish. G3 is a cutting compound whereas G10 is a finishing fine compound. It does remove stains and is ideal for turning old weathered glass into a high polish. As part of this it removes the outer chalked layer which tend sto be where the stain is. As described an electric polisher. I was told to hand apply the G10 with a cloth, then when dry use a big slow polisher with plenty of water sprayed by hand sprayer, the water stops it getting hot and catching. It is really quick to use and I did the whole of the hull and topsides in an afternoon. Autoglym to then keep it that way. Two seasons on and a quick autoglym has it back to being shiny.
