Hi everyone.

I have today just purchased an Achilles 24 by the name of Red Gauntlet. She is currently lying ashore in Flushing down in Falmouth.. However she will soon be in the water being raced and cruised once I have done a bit of work to her.

I will follow with photos shortly.

I am very excited.. It's my first keel boat, a bit of a step up from my Wayfarer.

Bye for now.

Welcome redgaunlet1. I don't seem to have Red Gauntlet in my sail numbers list. Could you send me an email with the sail number and your name. Many thanks.

In 1990 i had a mooring very near the start line in Falmouth at Greenbank.
( see gaffers start pic )
One evening I watched a small yacht winning a race by a mile ,, I remember she was ALL red , smooth and shiny underneath. ( I could see most of it ,well heeled.) I think it was Red Gauntlet,, (White now I know)
In 2006 my son rang me , dad im thinking of buying a boat. you are mad says I.. Its an Achilles 24 says he, OK I will come to see her with you .says I , We bought Chille only hours later,, The first of four ..
Red Gauntlet has a lot to answer for.!

Hello everyone...

What a response. It's nice to meet you all. I have heard from the club that she has a huge reputation on the racing circuit.. I have some pretty big shoes to fill.

Norman, I will send you the sail number when I get hold of it on Monday. According to the last owner it was built in 1973.

I must admit I am slightly daunted by the task ahead and I am sure I will have lots of questions, some probably silly.

It's nice to see some other local owners too, we must sort out a cruise one weekend.
