While waiting for the mast (which I've been promised will be delivered this month), I've been ticking off lots of small jobs. New bilge pump mounted, cleaning cabin before painting, cutting away old wiring, etc.

I need to mount my canister 4-man liferaft somewhere. I like the idea of hanging it on the pushpit, and I've seen other Achilles owners do the same thing. Would save space elsewhere on the boat, but I'd be worried about the pushpit taking the weight of the canister? It's quite heavy, would I be better off mounting on the cabin roof ahead of the mast?

The pushpit is strong enough. But if you intend getting on board via the stern ladder (i do) on a swinging mooring ...? its in the way.
If you put it in front of the mast the jib sheets will foul it when tacking.
I dont have one so cant help further!

Yeah I had my raft up front on the Corribee and it was a real pain when tacking.

Luckily I will be mooring at a marina, (Ballycaste/Rathlin) so can access the boat from a good jetty. Pushpit it is!
