About Abstract on the Fly
Photos that beg to be appreciated as abstract imagery. Do you have a photo that makes you forget what its subject matter is about? Send it here. (Photos only, please.)
What the group is NOT about:
It's not about abstract art objects.
It's not about scenes that you think are merely interesting or strange.
It's not about scenes that you think might be considered to be about something that is "abstract." In fact, it's not about "scenes" at all. If the subject matter is too easily recognizable, then this isn't the place for it.
And, finally, this group isn't about images that have been manipulated to be abstract.
It's about found images that, by their nature, are seen as abstract picture planes.
What does "abstract" mean, then, as applied to art? From Wikipedia:
Strictly speaking, [abstraction in art] refers to art unconcerned with the literal depiction of things from the visible world. it can, however, refer to an object or image which has been distilled from the real world, or indeed, from another work of art. Artwork that reshapes the natural world for expressive purposes is called abstract; that which derives from, but does not imitate a recognizable subject is called nonobjective abstraction.
