About Albuquerque Century 2008
On Saturday, June 7th, the Heart Hospital of New Mexico is proud to present the Albuquerque Century 2008. This annual cycling event encompasses a 100 mile route around Albuquerque and it's surrounding areas and will offer numerous photographic opportunities. Go to the www.abqcentury.com website for route maps and a more detailed look at the course.
By adding your image to this group, you are agreeing to have your image judged by a panel of independent jurors (non-flickr members). From all the entries to this group, a select number of photographs will be chosen as the winning photographs. In return for having your image chosen, you, the photographer, will receive prizes and/or gifts, the opportunity to have your photograph displayed at the Heart Hospital of New Mexico, possible inclusion in publications from the NM Department of Tourism and exposure to hundreds of cyclists that may wish to purchase images from you.
You are invited to post all of your images from the days events to this group for consideration. All entries must emphasize Albuquerque and most importantly, bicycling.
Our Judges Will Be:
Glenn Hohnstreiter
Specializing in fine art photography, Glenn Hohnstreiter of Albuquerque has developed a style that uniquely interprets vibrant images of nature. Glenn’s scenes are representations of light and scenery that occur only briefly, and they result in spectacular images. His work features the Southwestern landscape in both black and white and color.
Glenn has received many national awards. The Professional Photographers of America named him as the Gold Photographer of the Year in 2004 and again in 2007 (one of only 40 individuals nationally each year.) His images have been included in displays at the Walt Disney World, EPCOT Center, Photokina in Cologne, Germany, at “Imaging Asia 2005,” Daegu, Korea and many PPA exhibits for over 15 years. One of his images is displayed at the New Mexico Natural History Museum. He is the only individual in the 50-year history of the Professional Photographers Association of New Mexico to score a perfect “100” in juried competition – and he did it twice in the same print competition in 1994. He is a member of the invitation-only American Society of Photographers, and has contributed many images to their Masters Traveling Loan Collection, which tour the country each year as the best 100 images in professional photography. Over a dozen of his images are included in the permanent collection of the International Hall of Fame for Photography in Oklahoma City. He was selected to produce the official portrait of the Albuquerque TriCentennial, which has been distributed widely.
His works have been published in many professional photographic journals, books, and calendars including the cover of the Professional Photographers of America annual publication Who’s Who in Professional Imaging 1996-1997. Glenn had the feature article and cover image for View Camera Magazine, November 2002.
Glenn is a member of the Professional Photographers of America, where he holds the degrees of Master of Photography and Photographic Craftsman. He is a past president of the Professional Photographers Association of New Mexico, where he was received Zia, New Mexico Print Fellow, American Society of Photographers Elite Award, and Eliot Porter Fine Art awards together with numerous other recognitions. He was granted the prestigious National Award in 2006 for lifetime achievement and service.
Glenn’s artistic vision was developed from a mutual appreciation of both science and art. From his scientific education and technical work he developed an advanced understanding of optics and photography. He was granted the Ph.D. degree from Stanford University and the M.S. and B.S. degrees from the University of Illinois, all in engineering. He studied art, photographic technique, and fine-art printing including specialized work with John Sexton and Lynn Radeka.
LeRoy Perea
An Albuquerque native, LeRoy Perea spent over 35 years working in a Photo-Optical organization at Sandia National Laboratories. He has served as President of the Imaging Professionals of the Southwest, President of the Professional Photographers of America New Mexico chapter and the President of the Albuquerque Guild of Professional Photographers. He has been active in the education of photography in both the professional and the amateur ranks.
His vast experience of many different types of photography has made him an ideal photographic judge. He has been judging the New Mexico State Fair Photography Exhibit for over 20 years. He has also judged various photography competitions for organizations and clubs.
Dana Foy
Dana Foy Dana Foy is a fine art photographer with over 25 years experience in black & white work. In 1990, he began photographing exclusively at night and continues to do so today.Dana is a native New Mexican, born and raised in Carlsbad, NM. He earned a BS degree in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science at the University of California in Berkeley. After graduation he worked as a software engineer in the computer industry for over 25 years. In 1995, he moved back to New Mexico and currently lives in the Jemez Mountains, where he pursues his visual interests among other activities.New Mexico is the land of light, which is just as true at night as during the daytime. Dana describes the Night as “the great diversity of light”, which challenges him to seek out the light amongst the shadows. He reproduces his nighttime images as hand-pulled photogravure prints, a traditional print making process. Since 1999, Dana has taught “The Art of Night Photography” at the University of New Mexico. He has given workshops and lectures on the same subject.About his work, Dana says, “To evoke the distinct and diverse moods of the night, I create hand-pulled photogravure prints of my nighttime images. It is a process of both technical and artistic discovery for me. I combine the traditional processes of darkroom work and fine art print making with the modern technology of digital transparencies and polymer printing plates. I print with white ink on black etching paper to reproduce the cool tones and delicate textures of the night. The result is a set of photo etchings that recreate the soft and subtle sense of light that characterizes my experience of the night."
We are hoping for a great turnout so please attend and participate in this wonderful event.
