That Canadian Grrl (a group admin) says:
11 May 11 - I see a lot of abandoned motels as I drive around Ontario, looking for old farm houses. I don't always stop for photos of the motels, they tend to be along roads with traffic and retail or commercial places too. It's a bit more daring to photograph a place where people are likely to stop and ask you what you are doing.

A motel is a hotel built along the road, a hotel for motorists. Enjoy the photos and add some of your own if you explore the old motels too.

About Abandoned Motels

A motel is a hotel designed for motorists, usually having direct access to an open parking area.

I drove north in Ontario and found abandoned motels along the way. Some in places with a great view but not enough business, I guess. Whatever reason the motel is abandoned, this group is to share their photos. Lets see their uniqueness, the heart that was put into them and the sadness of their decay.

Note: a motel is not a hotel. Motels are one or few floors tall. Motels are seldom in big cities and often found along a highway, like a road trip pit stop. They are not usually chains either. That's what makes them special.
