About Rare Fruit and Vegetable Council of Broward County

About the RFVC

The Rare Fruit and Vegetable Council of Broward County (RFVC) was founded in 1975 as a nonprofit organization devoted to encourage the extension of human knowledge of tropical fruit and vegetable plants in all their aspects, including scientific research, exploration and study of chemistry and physics of the earth and the environment.

To introduce from the tropical world and grow for future distribution for the benefit of mankind, new species and cultivars of fruits and vegetables with promising nutritional values.

History

The RFVC was founded by a group of dedicated individuals who were inspired to share their knowledge, time and help to anyone interested in tropical fruits and vegetables.

Our goal is to educate the public about tropical fruits and vegetables, to encourage exotic fruit propagation, and to provide educational material on their culture as well as to introduce new and select species of rare fruit, and vegetables.

Our annual plant show sales, fruit displays throughout the country have sparked much interest in our club so that our membership has grown many times over since that first meeting with less than 45 people in 1975.

Scholarships are available to qualified applicants to further encourage research and study of tropical fruit and horticulture. Please contact Gayle Hoffman for more information at scholarship@rfvcbroward.org
