About Life Thru A Lenz - Quality Comment Group

(LTAL) is a quality comment group for those wishing to get five critiques on their photos; and to improve their own photography through the considered written evaluation of other photographer's work.

The LTAL Lens Tag - append this tag to all critiques you make in the group.

TO JOIN LIFE THRU A LENZ
Membership in LTAL is by invitation only. The requirement to be issued an invitation is for you to read--and follow-- the directions in the First Section of the Rules, which describes an assignment you are to complete before you click the "Join this Group" link, and you affirm agreement to the Rules.

This is a test to ascertain your level of competence in English comprehension and composition, as well as the requisite responsibility, intelligence, integrity, motivation, thoroughness, attention to detail, thoughtfulness, and respect for others and their work, that success in this group entails. Other qualities we seek in a member include dedication and perseverance. Therefore, if you do not pass this test, you will be given credit if you try again and reapply.

DROP AND RUN
Someone may submit a photo without first critiquing. If you find such a photo, please use the following Did Not Critique (DNC) code to comment on it. Please add it again even if someone else has already done so. Add any relevant text as desired.

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/life-thru-a-lenz/"><img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7155/6469837411_7333c1bd0e_o.png"></a>

It will look like this:

If You See This Tag On Someone's Photo

Do not critique that photo. Skip it and continue to critique five not counting that one. You will not be required to critique it, even if the photographer completes his critiques later. You may leave a not why you are not critiquing it.

If You Get That Tag On Your Photo
Promptly complete the five critiques per your standard obligation. Inform the person who tagged your photo, and an active moderator, by flickrmail, advising them you have critiqued, and include a link to your photo. After satisfactory verification, they may remove the DNC comment. If you remove the comment without critiquing, or by yourself without getting verification, expect to be banned. Realize you have forfeited the right to get critiqued from anyone who properly placed a DNC on your photo.

Avoiding Drop and Run
Submitting a photo and not critiquing the five before yours is rude, annoying, and disruptive to the people who are expecting to receive critiques. There is a simple way to insure that no emergency or unforeseen occurrence will distract a person from completing there critiques after submitting a photo. Simply complete your critiques before you submit the photo.

COMPETITIONS
From time to time, we may sponsor Photo Competitions on various themes. You will find them in the Discussion Threads.

PHOTO ASSIGNMENTS
From time to time, we may have a photo assignment competition. Feel free to join in. Watch the Discussion Threads for Assignment Announcements. Competition and Assignment winning photos will be featured on the front page when they occur. Look below.

SUMMARY of POSTING RULES
This is a Summary, not the Complete Rules. You are responsible to know and understand all the group procedures and the complete set of rules, prior to participating.

a) Check for Flooders. Do not critique them. Post the Drop and Run Icon on their photos. Notify staff.

b) Leave a meaningful comment. Address at least two aspects of the photograph (technical or emotional) specifically, and include a reason for your statement. Identify any weaknesses in a positive, helpful way (as opposed to just derogatory.) As a rule of thumb, it is unlikely that a comment of less than two lines can be considered in the spirit of the rules. See the [Official] Critique Etiquette Guidelines

c) Be respectful to others.
d) Complete (at least some of) your critiques before you submit your photo.
e) Append the "Group Lens Tag" to all your critiques from this group.

POOL and COMMENT INTEGRITY
a) Do not delete your picture from the group’s pool, at least until it reaches page 2.
b) Do not delete any critiques that you have received, at least until your photo reaches page 2. If you feel that they are inappropriate in any way, discuss it with a group moderator or administrator before employing self help.
c) Do not block other group members.
d) Do not advertise, promote, or invite visits to your photostream, another flickrgroup, or any website, etc., within the comment that contains our group tag.
f) Allow at least five other people to post before you post again.

Note: Non-compliance with the rules may result in the removal of your photograph and/or the revocation of your membership or banning from the group.

General Recommendations for Critical Viewing:
- View photos full size on a black background by using the Slideshow or Lightbox feature. If Slideshow, ensure the Embiggen Optioin is off, since flickr oddly defaults to leaving it on.
- Calibrate your monitor How to Calibrate Your Monitor. (PC World)
- - Monitor test images. Lagom
