About From MoKaBe's coffee house, St Louis, Mo

MoKaBe’s coffee house is on Arsenal at Grand across from Tower Grove Park. While every coffee house may be considered unique by its usual clientele, there is something else about this place that seems to defy singular description.

Its location directly across from such a beautiful and popular park is certainly a plus and does add to traffic but does not account for the popularity of MoKaBe’s itself.

That they have excellent product is also only part of the draw. Many other coffee houses have good product too, but they fail to measure up on some other very basic level.

The service is relaxed but attentive and when you get a smile it’s a genuine smile. The folks who work here aren’t just employees. They comprise a family of sorts and their openness draws you into the fold as well. It’s still more than this though.

They offer free WIFI, again not entirely unusual, so that’s not it either.

They have a food menu that caters to the burger and fries crowd as much as to Vegans and Vegetarians. They even have smoke-free Sunday Vegan brunches, although you can still enjoy non-Vegan fare as well.

Being a smoker is not a problem (Actually, as of this year, 2011, it IS a problem,, but only for smokers. All establishments are smoke free now, however, there is still a covered outdoor area that DOES cater to the needs of smokers).

Previously,,, they did have a smoking section though the non-smoking area seemed a bit larger. In fact, there was even a second floor non-smoking loft type area with booths or tables-n-chairs (your preference) with cozy lighting.

After ordering your food, you are given a bottle with a particular colored flower assigned to your order. Sit wherever you like and the server will find you.

There is always background music playing, an eclectic mix of styles and tastes, never too loud, and on occasion there are even live performers as well.

Do you like trivia? Wednesday nights are trivia night. You will also find a supply of games available for self-entertainment too. Chess, Battleship, and others. You will see people working (or playing) at their laptops, playing scrabble, painting, writing letters, playing card games, etc,,, the overall atmosphere is comfortably conducive to many different table oriented activities.

If you prefer to sit at the counter on a stool, that’s there too.

Like to sit outside? There is a dedicated, sizable, year-round outdoor area, covered and open, (in season there are shade umbrellas at the tables) and on some chilly evenings you will even find logs burning in open air burn cages. Even your canine friends are welcome. Stainless steel water bowls are provided for these rather elite non-coffee drinkers. You can even fetch treats for them from inside.

You will encounter and find yourself happily interacting with people from every walk of life. It’s as if everyone fits in. I’ve never experienced this before. I have personally introduced (easily two dozen) other people to this environment,,, friends, family, coworkers, you name it, and I can say, without any reservation, that everybody was pleased to have been there. Even my mother enjoyed it.
