About Translating Silence: Voices from Palestine

This is the flickr group for students and photographers involved with the Translating Silence: Voices from Palestine exhibition currently being put together from An-Najah National University in the West Bank.

We aim neither to explain the historical and contextual circumstances behind the Israeli/Palestinian conflict nor openly promote a specific political agenda. We do, however, hope that our photos will promote a discourse that will in turn promote a greater understanding of the humanitarian issues of the conflict in our audiences. These photos are geared toward presenting multiple views of the identities and lives of regular Palestinians.

Each photographer has selected a specific theme (e.g. the transformation of the will to fight with age, the emotions accompanying seeing death) to help guide him or her over the 8-week period of the workshop. Because the students we are working with have a background in journalism, the photos range from very photojournalistic in nature to, in those so inclined, the artistic and abstract.
