This group is all about the "AMD103", P32ACDM(700-717), P40DC(800-843), P42DC(1-207), the locomotives that are the back bone of Amtrak . The original P40DC's were made in the early 90's(1993). These units were numbered in the 800 series *(800-843)*. These locomotives were painted in phase III paint, which was the bold red, white, blue that faded toward the rear of the locomotive. The P42DC's replaced the P40DC's. In March 2009 there is new hope for a handful of P40DC's. There is a new overhaul program that Amtrak has adopted thanks to congress providing funds to do so. The plan is to overhaul 15 P40DC's and return them to long distance service. #'s 814, 815, 816, 817, 818, 821, 822, 823, 824, 830, 831, 832, 835, 837, 809. Overhauls will be undertaken between April 2009 and February 2011. In February 2010 P40DC 821 was released from Beech Grove, and was spotted in service. In March 2010 832 was also released from Beech Grove, and was spotted on display in Washington, DC at Union Station. Eight P40's were leased to (CDOT) Connecticut Department Of Transportation (833, 834, 836, 838, 840, 841, 842, 843.) Since then CDOT bought all eight of the P40's that they had on lease. Now these P40's are used on CDOT's shore line east line. (NJT) New Jersey Transit bought four P40DC's 808, 810, 812, 820. The are used for ACES service from New York Penn-Station, NY to Atlantic City, NJ. The rest of the P40's are stored at Bear, DE. The first P42DC's were built in 1996-1997 there numbers were (1-120). (121-207) were built in 2000-2001. The P32ACDM's are a different breed, there are only 18 of them (700-717) they run in and out of Penn Station NY. The P32AC-DM's have third rail pick up shoes that enable them to enter in and out of Penn-Station. Hence the DM which stands for duel mode. Metro North Railroad along with CDOT also use the P32AC-DM's. The P32AC-DM's are used in and out of Grand Central Terminal. Metro North RR owns 27 P32AC-DM's, #'s (201-227) (228-231) are owned by CDOT which wear the famous NH paint. 201-205 were built in 1995. In 1998 206-218 were bought, finally in 2001 219-231 were added. Currently the Metro North fleet of P32AC-DM's are undergoing a overhaul to meet new federal tire II emission levels. VIA Rail of Canada also uses the Genesis. Via Rail has 21 P42DC's that where manufactured in 2001.
