13 Apr 12 - Attention "Ducklings" - I am happy to tell you that there are some "changes" happening in this wonderful group.

One of them is the opening of the photo pool for six additional species - Egrets, Herons, Coots, Grebes, Ibis and Pelicans. To cut down on almost identical shots, there is now a posting limit of "three at a time". Photos are going to remain in the queue for 48 hours before posting.

Please ask our new Admin, photogirl0608, if you have questions.

About Ducks and Geese and Swans, Oh My!

This group has been focused on pictures of ducks and geese (any geese - Canada, Domestic, etc) and Swans in the past. We are going to open up the photo pool and introduce another six breeds of water birds, these being Herons, Egrets, Pelicans, Coots, Grebe and Ibis. This will give you more choices to photograph and post to us and create more interest in the site.

Along with this, of course, are a few additions to the rules, and I would like you all to read and take notice of them.

***Posting photos to the pool is now limited to 3 at one time. They must not be repetitive, i.e. not identical shots of the same bird taken at the same time. Just pick out what you think is your best shot and post it to us.

Photos posted to the group are vetted and once approved will be sent by Admin to the photo pool approximately every 2 days. Please feel free to view the images, add your comments, and make new friends.

All photos must be respectable and relevant to the nature of the group. This is a family friendly group, and it must be safe for the smallest child to view. No dead, injured, hunter/hunted or mating animals to be posted, they will be removed; any tasteless shots will be removed and/or reported.

Copywriting and commercial sales advertisements are not allowed, they will be removed along with your photographs.

No caged animals, although photographs taken at nature preserves, etc., are fine as long as there are no "bars and cages".

The more I learn about digital photography, the more I realize that some of the beauty of it lies in being able to come inside (or go to your "lab") and correct mistakes or add quality to a "so-so" photo. I've been pretty harsh in the past about saying "no Photoshop" and "No altered photos" without clarifying what it is that I find objectionable. I'm hoping for "natural" shots, and that hasn't changed. What I am realizing is that enhancing the "nature" in the shot can be stunningly beautiful. Please forgive me if I didn't make it clear previously that what I do NOT want is pink alligators or blue and purple swans that glow in the dark (for example).

Bottom line regarding “post-production” - - - if what you do makes a nice nature shot look nicer, and if it enhances the natural beauty of the moment, it's fine here. My thanks to one of our members who brought all of this to my attention and gave me an opportunity to make some adjustments!!!
