About Illinois Tallgrass Prairies
I was inspired to start this group by an excellent article in the Illinois Steward magazine (an outstanding publication of the Illinois Natural History Survey, sadly no longer in publication) highlighting eight Illinois Tallgrass Prairies. The brief descriptions and photography in the Steward is excellent, but it left me wishing for more. While I have resolved to visit each of the eight prairies myself, it seemed worthwhile to create a Flickr group dedicated to documenting these specific prairies as well as other Illinois Tallgrass Prairies. I liked the descriptions in the article explaining how each of these eight prairies is unique. The original article can be found online at
